Blackberries are ripening…

 but only the darkest purple-indigo gems are worth reaching for.

I’m pretty sure it was James Beard who said about blackberries, “when they’re red — they’re green.”  Even if the berry looks like it could be ripe — it’s not ready to eat until it turns a dull dark indigo.
