Donna of Wind Kisses challenges us to show photos that resonate sounds this week. What a challenge it was for me to winnow down all the possibilities to a few! Finally I came up with three general groups: sounds generated by the natural world, mechanical noise, and sounds of people together.

As we approach the end of winter and see glimpses of early spring in the Northern Hemisphere, native and migratory birds begin their yearly call for mates.

Among my favorite nature sounds is water. Whether it’s the roar of ocean breakers pounding ashore, a rushing river or gentle stream, or the plink plink of raindrops on ponds, water sounds are both invigorating and soothing.

Mechanical sounds are often abrasive, yet also necessary to complete tasks or get you were you want to be! My favorite of these is the boat motor powering me over Odell Lake to go fishing.

Above left, a line of gardeners converse as we wait for the Heritage Farm plant sale to open. Center, Portland, OR Women’s March, January 20,2017. Right a group of friends celebrate at a wedding party. Bottom, folks admire detailed craftsmanship at the Carousel Museum in Albany, OR.

Love your three groups and the sounds from them, Lindy! Most of all the birds – and your dog in the tree!
Thank you, Leya!
Right now the sounds of birds chirping in the trees is my favorite sound. It is so comforting and life-giving.
I’m so pleased the birds cheered you Joseph. With my new camera I’m hoping to get some more close ups this year.
They really are so lively and hope bringing.
Before I read your final notes, I thought…that looks like a dog in a tree. And it was, lol. Max looks confused, and Daisy, I guess, Daisy. Great selections. I can almost hear the songbird chorus. The chainsaw was unique add and I agree the Odell Lake the sound of a day on the lake.
And I am glad to see the carousel museum. I know I have talked to you of that before. I lived close enough to walk there a few years back, but it wasn’t done yet. WE moved before I had a chance to delve into volunteer efforts. It is nice to see how pretty the horses are. Thanks Lindy.
Thank you, Donna. Oh, Daisy, what a character!!! I’m hoping to go to the carousel museum again this year with my sister who lives in Corvallis. There are new animals and I have a new camera:-)
Excellent photos, Lindy. From the birds to the ocean to the musicians and everything else, your photos brought sounds to the screen.
Thank you, Egídio!
I especially liked your picture of the pounding surf, Lindy!
Beautiful bird photos and sounds, especially! So much fun to watch your doggy went up to the tree, Love it! 🙂
Thank you, Amy!
Terrific variety on this one Lindy. I enjoyed all of them and loved the variety. But a dog that climbs a tree!!! I’ve never heard of nor seen one that could do that. Amazing!
Thank you, Tina. Most dogs do stop at the bottom and just bounce up and down barking. Daisy just kept right on going – until she looked down. Luckily she could shimmy down far enough and jump off without hurting herself!
You get better all the time! A far cry from the first of your stuff I saw.
Thank you, Ralph. I love learning, and these challenges keep me on my toes!
