~ Lens-Artists Challenge #345 ~ My Go-To Places ~

The reason I’m late getting this week’s Lens-Artists challenge posted is because the weather has been perfect here in Vancouver, WA for “playing” outside in my gardens. The pond was in sad shape at the end of winter, so I put quite a bit of time and energy into shoring it up and making sure the pump is working well and the plants are healthy, because this sylvan space is my number one Go-To place to relax and revive my spirits from spring through autumn.

Surrounded by tall Douglas Firs twined with Vine Maple, a small waterfall supplies the lovely sound of running water which attracts birds while the pond provides a habitat for koi, frogs and other critters.

Whether I’m reading, writing or thinking, the tranquility of this space always does the trick. Max likes to curl up on the loveseat next to me, while Daisy patrols the grounds or searches in the pond for the elusive Koi.

After completing this post, I will pack up the truck and head out to my other Go-To place for renewal; our condominium at Long Beach, WA.

Creighton took this snapshot of me with Daisy and Max in my favorite spot inside our condo; the big purple chair. From here I can see out the windows across the marsh/meadow to the berm and beyond. We stay here a couple weeks a month between mid September, through mid June, and leave it available for guests during the busy summer season.

A big thank you to John for his wonderful challenge and reminder to nurture ourselves by seeking out and being in places that help us get centered and stay sane. You can find his beautiful post here.

On your walk with life, please honor our earth, encourage dignity and share kindness. 🐾

  1. You have some very beautiful go to places

Thank you, Joseph. When gas prices skyrocketed in 2008 and the term staycation came into vogue in the USA, I took it to heart and really worked to make a nice retreat sanctuary for birds and people in my back yard!

  2. Lovelly…rather jealous 😃

    • Lindy Le Coq's avatar Lindy Le Coq says:

No need to be jealous! The grounds at my home in Vancouver have been a forty year project. The condominium was luck, and my one life luxury! No foreign travel for us anymore. Just local.

Very nice, as usual. Makes me homesick.

  4. It looks like you and your pals are quite content just sitting on that couch! That “back yard” retreat is idyllic! I put back yard in quotes because I wasn’t sure if it is your back yard or your acreage.

Oh yes, John. In fact I’m on the purple chair with Max nestled beside me right now as I write this! The pond is in my back yard. We kept all the firs we could when the house was built for us in 1984. The front yard is sunny and the back stays shaded almost all day. It makes for a really nice sanctuary in summer!

Lindy, what a peaceful place to have so close. Also, the beach photos are breathtaking. Have a safe trip.

    • Lindy Le Coq's avatar Lindy Le Coq says:

Thank you, Egídio! I built the pond myself when my mother passed in 1996. Since then I have added flora and furnishing to make it a special place. I’m at the beach right now, in my chair with Max curled up beside me. It’s mostly cloudy, so no beautiful photos, but still very peaceful.

  6. Nothing like your beautiful spaces, but I do have some of my own, especially our off-leash dog park on the Guadalupe River. These places restore our souls!

  7. Lindy, both of your go-to places are beautiful and look so peaceful.

Great photos Lindy. Love Daisy and Max, and that sunset!
