Around the perimeter of Crater Lake are many broken and bleached timbers. Their stark bareness against the blue backdrop of the dazzling lake drew me to photograph them. Here are three favorites.

Cedar Snag ~ Weekly Photo Challenge ~ Broken

This week’s photo challenge stumped me until I remembered the huge Cedar tree that had lived on the south side of cabin 1.  At least twenty years ago a severe winter storm snapped the trunk about ten feet up from its base.

Rabbit Nest ~ Weekly Photo Challenge ~ Enveloped

One spring morning I discovered this rabbit nest in a dry corner of the garden, protected from rain by the eves of my house. Rabbit nestCovered by a blanket of fur, the kits were sheltered in an earthen cocoon dug into the bark mulch under ivy.

IMG_2250After Jello sniffed her way right into a tide pool – and climbed out with only a perfunctory shaking-off in response, I accidentally ended up in the monochrome setting on my iPhone. This shot is a happy result of that event.
