~ “Slip Slidin’ Away” ~ WPC: Danger! ~

From fall to late spring in the Pacific Northwest, moss can turn sidewalks and driveways into dangerous places to tread.

“You know the nearer your destination
The more you’re slip slidin’ away”

Paul Simon

I feel this way about my country right now. We were on a path of acceptance, hope and inclusion. Since Trump was inaugurated, so much has slid out of reach, and the threat of more damage to come sickens me. I continue to resist and refuse to be sucked into thinking it’s all okay — it is not — it is dangerous.

  1. I am finding it harder and harder to follow the news. My heart is broken every day.

  2. I have literally cried about the effects of his so-called administration on the environment. So many of our crass relatives are still enamored with him… and i really don’t care to socialize with them any longer whatsoever. Hitler killed the beautiful Jews. Trump (and his supporters) are killing the whole, beautiful planet.

Oh, Tom — it has to be difficult to have family who are dazzled by his hype, and your reaction is the ethical choice. Hard, but at least you can live with your conscience! We are not alone — we are the majority — and we will overcome.

No more news over here. I just can’t take it anymore. I told my husband to tell me if anything “huge” happens…

I hope there are many like you who are not willing to be complacent. It is certainly not a time to tune out. I love the way you tied together the slippery sidewalks, Paul Simons quote and your observations.

Thank you, Janice. Here’s another quote/paraphrase I love: “Complacency is far more dangerous than outrage.” Naomi Littlebear

I do sense this is true. I wonder if you’ve heard of the book ‘On Tyranny’ by Timothy Snyder, recently published, it’s about how history has shown that assuming that the worst will not happen is not a good approach.

I haven’t heard of the book, but it will go on my reading list! Thanks, Janice.

I fully agree…and I flee to nature….hoping it will be there in a few years.

Very clever ties between the mossy driveway, the quote and your comments Lindy. Personally I limit my exposure to a very small amount of time and sources I believe in. Otherwise you could be driven totally crazy by the media frenzy. I still think 24-hour news will be the ruin of us all.

Thank you, Tina! I do the same in limiting exposure and keeping to trusted sources. Then I write more Caligula Haiku!
