Thanks, Susan! It is a critter that works just under the sand surface, Alloniscus or Circus Beetle; Eleodes hirtipennis. They are 1/2″- 3/4″ (1-2 cm) long, scavengers in sandy habitats with sparse vegetation. The creations they make fascinate me!!!
