~ Lens-Artists Challenge #343 ~ Seen on my Last Outing ~

Ann-Christine wants to know what happened on our last outing, and what prompted us to pull out our cameras. Usually with a challenge like this, I would post photos of my last visit to Long Beach, or take you on a tour of spring in my gardens – where I go to detox from the daily torrent of upsetting news. However, today I present another side of my being; someone willing to stand up for her beliefs.

On this lovely sunny Saturday, I joined with my community to peacefully demonstrate that a large part of WE THE PEOPLE do not support what the Trump administration is doing to wreck our country, destroy our economy, up-end our lives, de-fund entities that we depend upon and expect to be there when we need/want them, to cause us to be less safe, less healthy, less wealthy, less educated, and in one small-handed swipe disrupt a world order that was doing quite nicely without him. We were a large crowd for a “purple” county, around 3000 – 4000, all ages, all walks of life. This is a small sampling of the many creative signs on display.

On your walk with life, please honor our earth, encourage dignity and share kindness. 🐾

  1. “On your walk with life, please honor our earth, encourage dignity and share kindness. ” Luv the quote, Lindy! I avoid politics on my blog, but I will say that I am hopeful that these people will triumph over the current condition of our country.

Thank you, John. The quote is an original. Usually I avoid any politics on my blog as well. This time however, it felt weak and cowardly not to put my genuine point of view out to the larger world community.

I am with you and all decent Americans who can stand up for their rights as people. It feels better to act in some way, peacefully and honestly. The world is crazy, and this kind of outing is both doing good and feeling good. Thank you, Lindy!

An excellent and very timely response for the week Lindy. Some of the signs are wonderful – people are so clever! Good on you all for expressing what most of we the people are thinking.

  4. I didn’t take any pictures, and I gave my sign (similar to those in your photos) to someone else when back fatigue took over–it was chilly, and I was out there with my back brace and cane, still recovering from spine surgery January 24. We had about 400 people in our little Hill Country Texas town. And lots of MAGA taunts. I actually called a guy an a*****e to his face. But a lot of people honked and waved in support! I’m proud of our little progressive (minority) community. We have to keep up the resistance!

I’m so sorry you had to deal with taunts, not to mention still being in the process of recovery from surgery. You are another true champion, Jill. Willing to put yourself out there, even when it hurts!

Good on you for doing this, it is horrible what is happening and while I’m not an American, or live there, we were cheering you on from our home here in Australia, as we desperately hope what that man does doesn’t influence our country too much.

  6. Paul's avatar Paul says:

Thank you for posting this. I’ve been away from the Lens Artists Challenge for some time now. My own blog used to be travel and photograph. Of necessity, it’s turned into a political site. I wouldn’t have bothered adding a post to this week’s challenge had I not seen yours. I wish you all the best in these trying times.

    Paul

Thank you, Paul. Although I focus on nature usually in my Lens-Artist posts, it was important to me to put myself out on this one. We all need encouragement to stand up for what it is we believe!

Lindy, I’m thrilled you got to go to that demonstration and give us these photos. Great gallery. I loved the sign with the cars and how fast they are — with Tesla being “fascist.” Excellent!

    • Lindy Le Coq's avatar Lindy Le Coq says:

Oh, that Tesla=fascist one cracked me up! People are so creative, and it was energizing to be in a crowd of like-minded citizens standing up for our belief in democracy.

Thank you, thank you for this post! What a mass T has made in just few months.

It looks like a peaceful yet powerful demonstration Lindy and some of the signs are truly wonderful. We are with you on this all the way 🩷💫 xxx

Thank you, Xenia. It’s going to be an ongoing effort of citizens here to continue to demonstrate our dissatisfaction with and opposition to this administration.
