September, 2018 — Into my sixth year of retirement after thirty years as a high school counselor.

When I entered this phase of life, my goal was to become a human being instead of a human doing. That concept has been a useful guideline as I’ve made decisions over these years.  Since doing is a necessary part of being, to separate them presents a conundrum — a puzzle I continue to explore. So far I’ve confirmed that asking myself what’s important right now provides the best guidance.

Every day I express myself through various artistic joys including writing, photography, my WordPress blog, drawing, and landscape gardening. I strive to keep a balance in my physical, emotional, mental and spiritual being through the activities I choose and the friendships I cultivate.

I love to read, cook, fish and camp with my family, be at our condo in Long Beach, go on walks with my beagle, and enjoy a warm fire or quiet time with my husband of 49 years, Creighton.

    Bonjour Madame LeCoq
I love visiting your blog Lindy – it’s so full of vibrancy, colour and fabulous pictures – you need to get yourself a ‘like everything’ button – l would probably press it twice.

    Regards

    Dan

Goodness – I wish I’d seen this response before! Honestly, I confess to being somewhat hapless in this blogosphere environment. How in the hell do I get a “like everything” button!

  2. Hi Lindy-
I can so identify with your philosophy to be a human being after decades of human doing. The world of education is so rewarding, yet, once one steps out and can see how structured every SECOND of the day was… that certainly was a lot of doing! I recently entered “reinspirement” after 20 years of teaching. I honestly was at a loss at first, and now love what you so wonderfully identified as “being.”
Washington is one of my husband’s and my favorite places. Love your little cabin and your drawings.
I’m happy to have you as a follower of my blog. Welcome ❤
    Jane

I am just now replying to your lovely note because I just now read it! I love what you are doing on your blog with environmental challenges. I’m taking a look at my site and seeing how I can improve it, which is why I just now read your very sweet note. 🌷 Thank you for continuing to like my posts. Jello and I just returned from a two day trip to Longbeach (WA) which out on the ocean was still quite mellow for early summer.

HI! I really love your term, human “being” vs human “doing!” We look forward to reading your blog 🙂 BTW, maybe you’ve seen that T-shirt with the silhouette of 2 crows and headline “Attempted Murder.” Your story about crows at The Breakers reminded me of it! Keep on being… J&A

Thanks for checking out my blog, and I’m glad you get the difference between human being and human doing! Whenever I start to berate myself for not doing enough, I stop and laugh. Isn’t being, here and now enough? Yes! Love crows – I have some photos I’ll in the future of one that drinks from my rain gutter, seen through a solar shade – pretty cool. Lindy

  4. Lindy, I linked to this from your poem on Postcard Poems and Prose (to which I intend to submit work). I loved the poem and decided to check out your blog. We have a lot in common–I’m a little older, and when I retired my goals were much like yours. Into my fifth year, I’m loving my life more and more. Please check out both wigginswordsandimages.wordpress.com (subtitle: Radical Retirement) and my art blog, jillybeanswiggins.wordpress.com. Looking forward to following your blog!

Jeez – sometimes I don’t see things right away, and your very lovely compliment is one that slid by. Thank you for liking my poems, and my site. I am about to start my third year of Being, and all those old habits are finally drifting down stream. However, every time a school bus drives by my front window, it prompts a memory of those thirty years! I will check your blog momentarily. Lindy

    Hey there Newbie Spikey!
(for your info, a Spikey is the term for folk who are part of the clan known to be followers of Uncle Spike 🙂

Thank you… I really appreciate that as I for one, know how many interesting and entertaining blogs are out there.

Blogging since June 2013, my aim is to deliver an eclectic offering of posts, from my ‘point n shoot’ attempts at basic photography, to the sharing of my travel adventures over the decades, as well as day to day happenings here on the farm. Oh, plus a few observations, opinions and lighter-hearted stuff thrown in for good measure.

I normally keep to a couple of posts a day, maybe 3-4 at weekends if I have something special to share. But if you are at a loose end one day, maybe you’ll enjoy trawling through some of my older stuff too. I have added plenty of categories to help in said digging process.

Thanks again and hope you have a great day…

    UNCLE SPIKE

Hi Spikey – I have dropped in (so to speak) to view your posts over the past couple years. Finally realized it is important to follow people too! Lindy

I’ve seen your name around and thought you were a follower, but you know what WordPress is like at dropping names off… anyway, welcome aboard, as they say 🙂

  7. Your photos always provide a smile and a connection to my PNW roots. Thank you for kind green thumbs and ever gracious smile.💜

    Hello Lindy,

I am absolutely in love with the purpose behind your blog. It warms my heart to see all the photographs, the well written posts, and the enthusiasm you share with every read. You are who I strive to become when I retire — happy and still doing the things I love (which similarly enough, involve drawing, cooking and being in nature).

I also can not thank you enough for sharing the list of blogs you follow on your site. I love reading about other’s experiences with natures and I have now discovered new blogs to follow. 🙂 I hope you have a wonderful day. Enjoy your retirement! I cannot wait to see what new posts you share with all of us.
