September, 2018 — Into my sixth year of retirement after thirty years as a high school counselor.
When I entered this phase of life, my goal was to become a human being instead of a human doing. That concept has been a useful guideline as I’ve made decisions over these years. Since doing is a necessary part of being, to separate them presents a conundrum — a puzzle I continue to explore. So far I’ve confirmed that asking myself what’s important right now provides the best guidance.
Every day I express myself through various artistic joys including writing, photography, my WordPress blog, drawing, and landscape gardening. I strive to keep a balance in my physical, emotional, mental and spiritual being through the activities I choose and the friendships I cultivate.
I love to read, cook, fish and camp with my family, be at our condo in Long Beach, go on walks with my beagle, and enjoy a warm fire or quiet time with my husband of 49 years, Creighton.

Hi Lindy-
I can so identify with your philosophy to be a human being after decades of human doing. The world of education is so rewarding, yet, once one steps out and can see how structured every SECOND of the day was… that certainly was a lot of doing! I recently entered “reinspirement” after 20 years of teaching. I honestly was at a loss at first, and now love what you so wonderfully identified as “being.”
Washington is one of my husband’s and my favorite places. Love your little cabin and your drawings.

Thank you… I really appreciate that as I for one, know how many interesting and entertaining blogs are out there.
Blogging since June 2013, my aim is to deliver an eclectic offering of posts, from my ‘point n shoot’ attempts at basic photography, to the sharing of my travel adventures over the decades, as well as day to day happenings here on the farm. Oh, plus a few observations, opinions and lighter-hearted stuff thrown in for good measure.
I normally keep to a couple of posts a day, maybe 3-4 at weekends if I have something special to share. But if you are at a loose end one day, maybe you’ll enjoy trawling through some of my older stuff too. I have added plenty of categories to help in said digging process.

You are who I strive to become when I retire — happy and still doing the things I love (which similarly enough, involve drawing, cooking and being in nature).
