My contribution to Cee’s Black and White challenge. I love that it is okay to have some toned-down color in this challenge. Thanks, Cee!

This natural still life presented itself on the flat top of a tree stump.
Ledbetter Point Wildlife Refuge,
Oysterville, WA – USA

This Lens-Artists challenge from Patti, came just as I was on the way to our condo at Long Beach, for a few days.

Rain and snow from winter storms are filling the marshland, and tree frogs were croaking when I stepped out on the deck to take the above photo.

Soon there will be families of Mallard ducks and Canada goose plying these waters!
When the day promised more sunshine than showers, I drove out to Ledbetter Point National Wildlife Refuge near the northern tip of the Long Beach Peninsula, to walk the woodland trails. In assembling this post, I’m borrowing *Tina’s idea to include quotes. They express what I feel when I’m in nature better than anything I might conjure!

“Nature holds the key to our aesthetic, intellectual, cognitive and even spiritual satisfaction.” – E. O. Wilson

“Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads.” – H. D. Thoreau

“To me a lush carpet of pine needles or spongy grass is more welcome than the most luxurious Persian rug.” – Helen Keller

Being in nature calms me, cleanses my spirit and fills me with renewed wonder.

“Because there’s nothing more beautiful than the way the ocean refuses to stop kissing the shoreline, no matter how many times it’s sent away.” – Sarah Kay

When William Clark arrived at the shores of the Pacific Ocean, he carved a message on a living tree to establish United States precedence of discovery and occupation in what was then the Oregon Territory.

Clark’s Tree Sculpture
The bronze memorial sculpture, created by Stanley Wanlass, marks the westernmost and northernmost point of Lewis & Clark’s journey on the Pacific coast. It sits on a dune above the beach near The Breakers in Long Beach, WA – USA.

“William Clark. Nov. 19, 1805. By land from the U. States.”

On a rainy day, time for a bit of cheer.

Thank you Tina, for this week’s Lens-Artist Photo Challenge!

A little brightness on a cold, snowy, mostly cloudy day!
