Jello’s ongoing care required daily maintenance and continual physical closeness, as the original stitches did their work to keep her body patched together.

by 10/7/15, it was clear another surgery would be necessary.

Dr. Polly Martin, Salmon Creek Vet Clinic, did a beautiful job diagnosing and completing the reconstructive procedures.

Another angel has entered our lives. By the time all Jello’s hair grows back, only Jello and her angels will know what happened.

~ Friday Flyers ~ Cormorant vs. Mew Gulls ~ WPC – (Extra)ordinary ~

Last Tuesday I posted shots of two Double-crested Cormorants — one perched on a buoy, and the other floating by on a piece of driftwood. Today I offer the prelude to that sequence. P1050435

A small colony of Mew Gulls floated along with the tide on their driftwood island, while the Double-crested Cormorant remained vigilant but unfazed by their presence

Suddenly the Cormorant began acting in a threatening way, and soon another Cormorant paddled into the scene.

With one lunge the marauding Cormorant crashed the gull party, and claimed the driftwood as his own. Amazing to watch!

As I closed the truck door and Creighton drove us to the Orcas ferry landing early this morning, I said good-bye to Beach Haven for another year. I feel extraordinarily refreshed and renewed, which is all I ask from a vacation!

~ Sunday Sailors ~ Birds in the Bay ~

This pair of Harlequin Ducks worked the shoreline right in front of the deck at cabin 1.

After sundown, a pair of Pacific Loons appeared with an escort — a Herring Gull. The gull floated on the surface, unfazed and unflappable as the two loons worked the waters, always returning within eyesight of their attendant.

A flock of Canada Goose flew north across the bay, honking and making a racket, while one, still in the water, paddled like crazy to catch up with them!

At the end of the day the Thayer’s Gull screeched at me, as I sat on the deck. Then it gave me a nasty look, a final farewell cry and flapped off for the night.

An early morning Cormorant dried its wings in this morning’s slight breeze. All is well.

Olga is one of those tiny towns with a post office, a general store (closed) and a few homes where a community of people appear content in their lovely, quiet nook.

Extraordinary in the bright autumn light, the sun sparkling like diamonds on the water.

~ Weekly Photo Challenge ~ Happy Place ~

My Happy Place starts the moment I arrive at the Anacortes Ferry landing. The weather was nice and I had time to explore and take some photos.

Once I am on the deck of Cabin 1, Beach Haven, Orcas Island, WA — it begins. Each moment of every day, the light shifts to create a new palette of beauty before me.

And then there are the birds! Stay tuned for more in tomorrow’s Friday Flyers.
