Almost Ripe ~ Weekly Photo Challenge ~ Half and Half
Blackberries are ripening…
but only the darkest purple-indigo gems are worth reaching for.
I’m pretty sure it was James Beard who said about blackberries, “when they’re red — they’re green.” Even if the berry looks like it could be ripe — it’s not ready to eat until it turns a dull dark indigo.

Over the Edge ~ Weekly Photo Challenge ~ Half and Half
The photo challenge this week is to “share an image that has two clear halves, literally or figuratively.” This shot, looking down the hillside into the deep blue waters of Crater Lake, has the added drama of trees growing up toward the viewpoint.

~ Restoring Wood Garage Doors ~
I have taken on the project of sanding and refinishing the garage doors of my house. It is a labor of love — lots of work with wood — a material I love. Once the panels and bevels are sanded smooth, I will finish them with a high quality stain.
After three afternoons applying a belt sander to the surfaces, I’m getting to the wood underneath. At the end of each work session I’m tired; my shoulders are sore, arms are noodles, and hands are raggedy. One of the reasons I take pictures of projects like this is so I can see progress being made!
Tartan ~ Weekly Photo Challenge ~ Symbol
Years ago my brother, Mike, visited Scotland, the homeland of our grandfather, George Sutherland Low and grandmother Jessie Harvey Fraser. During his travels, Mike researched our family clans and after extensive searching found the woolen plaid fabrics of our clan tartans.
Mike’s wife made these banners for the family and I treasure mine. It symbolizes a connection to a heritage I am part of, even at this great distance in space and time. Both tartans are lovely.

~ Tuesday’s with Cee’s Oddball Photo Challenge ~
After several days creating a new garden, all my work gloves needed washing. They looked so funny air drying on the basket, I had to snap this photo!

~ Monochrome Monday ~ Shifting Sand ~
I love looking at life from different perspectives. This photo, taken with my camera resting on top of beach sand, gives the impression of a moonscape until you notice the seagull!
