~ Seeking Solace in Nature ~ Skywatch Friday ~

The election of a man who has no business being President of the United States, has left me seeking internal balance. Everything he says and represents is antithetical to my belief system and core values. Though I know better than to retreat, taking a breather at the beach has helped me clear my heart, soul and mind. We will rise.

With apologies to r.d. laing

My dear, wise friend Judi Goldberg deserves a wider audience for this succinct parsing of now.

Day 2

Day two of president elect Donald Trump. And playing out on a national level is the confusion of feelings and facts, by which I mean understanding reality based on ones feelings, and justifying ones actions based on feelings. Well, I mean the whole election was an example of that, but as my good friend Doug pointed out for at least the 150 times in the last year or so, we are a republic, not a democracy, and it’s not simply about majority rules. It’s about disagreement, and the push and pull and tug and scratch of the factions. And of course there was going to be push back against the what the fuck of all the changes that have seemingly been rammed down the throats of white men and women it can’t help but be said, who weren’t, aren’t ready. But, it is just another cycle and another…

Stunned…

Jane captures my feelings so well in her photos and post, I decided to share it. Thank you, Jane.

Yes, the sun did come up… But it’s raining in my soul.

I do take comfort in President Obama’s remarks:

We are all on one team. We are not Democrats first. We are not Republicans first. We are Americans first. We are patriots first… Go forward in good faith.”

I love my country and will stand by her. However, I do so with deep concerns  for people here and abroad, and for the well-being of our shared – Earth.

Emotionally, I’m devasted.

~ Keep Out! ~ Cee’s B&W Photo Challenge: Signs of Any Kind ~

img_6902 While walking Jello through Riverside Park in Spokane, Washington last month, I saw this lineup of signs and knew someday it would be perfect to post for one of Cee’s challenges!

img_5698 This one caught my eye because of the juxtaposition of messages.

img_6646And my final entry is a reminder to respect mother earth.

~ Porcelain Berries ~ In A Vase On Monday ~

Not much interesting blooming in my gardens right now, however these last few leaves and the lovely fruit of the porcelain berry vine caught my eye. They are in a small glass vase from a dear friend, placed on a favorite fabric table scarf.

~ Resourceful Possibility of Untidy Chance ~ WPC: Chaos ~

For this week’s photo challenge, Ben Huberman asks us to embrace “the creative potential of disorderly randomness.”

While walking at Longbeach last month, I saw this piece of metal in the distance. Approaching it, I noticed all the ocean-dwellers living on the concave surface and decided to take a photo. I set my cell on the sand and snapped this shot.

The subject and setting seem to fit the challenge:
creative (resourceful)
potential (possibility)
of
disorderly (untidy)
randomness (chance)

~ Farewell Willow ~ Weekly Photo Challenge: Transmogrify ~

The origin of the word transmogrify appears to be a perversion of transmigure (transmigrate) and is first noted in the 1650’s. In current usage, transmogrify means “to change in appearance or form, especially strangely or grotesquely; transform.”

This Pacific willow (Salix lucida Muhl. subsp. lasiandra (Benth.) A.E. Murray) has been a mainstay deciduous tree in the back yard since our house was built, in 1984. Over the past few years it has been listing over the fence and into a neighbor’s fir tree. I hated to do anything with it, as it provides wonderful habitat for woodpeckers (Picidae). However, as you can see in the photo, at the base of the trunk is a huge fracture, and many more higher up in the branches.

There was nothing we could do to save the tree, and I decided it was better to have it removed in a controlled fall, rather than wait for it to come crashing down in a storm and take out fences and who knows what else.

In earlier centuries transmogrify meant “to change completely,” and transmigrate also has a soul level meaning “to pass into another body after death, to depart to another place, to go away.”

In this case, the salvageable wood will feed my wood stove in future years, and a new tree will find a home where this one stood for so long.
