~ Mystery Rose and Friends ~ In A Vase on Monday ~

My roses are giving me their last bit of flower for the season. This one is framed by aster, Sweet William and annual vinca in a squat ceramic vase.

Rosa ‘Chrysler Imperial’

The tag on this hybrid tea rose says it is Chrysler Imperial, although the blossoms are always pink — not deep red as described in the literature — hmmm!

What a delight it is to grow flowers, see their beauty around me and bring some in to brighten my home. For inspiration visit Cathy at Rambling in the Garden and consider adding your posy to the fun!

~ Frame-Up ~ Cee’s Odd Ball + WPC – Frame 2 ~

Another thing Vic Moore taught me, was to keep an eye out for the absurd: things, items, places, situations — find the fun and the lesson in what is everywhere around us — revel with the odd balls of life!

As I walked through Newport, Washington USA, this building slowed my pace. I wondered what the original purpose had been —  what other enterprises had occupied this structure — how did it end up like this?

Thanks to Cee Nunner, those of us with a bit of whimsy (and in this case curiosity) have a place to show our odd ball work!

~ Creekside ~ Weekly Photo Challenge – Frame 1 ~

I remember when my high school art teacher, Vic Moore showed me that by circling my thumb and  finger together I could make a frame to look  through — anytime — anywhere. With my thumb resting upon my cheekbone, I still scan and focus to my heart’s delight!

~ River Jewelwing ~ Wordless Wednesday + WPC – Rare ~

Although this jewel may not be rare to others, getting a good close-up shot of any damselfly (or dragonfly) is a rare feat for me!

~ In A Vase On Monday ~ (well almost!)

These Rudbeckia were in the vase yesterday, and the pictures were taken then, but I was having too much fun talking with my dear friend Kate last night. So here you have the posy on Tuesday.

Rudbeckia fulgida var. sullivantii ‘Goldstrum’

The salt glaze vase holds hydrangea that Kate picked a month ago — they have dried into a lovely blue. In front is a small ceramic vase filled with fresh-cut Rudbeckia. With the nightlite behind, it makes a lovely  composition.

~ Windsor ~ Cee’s B&W Photo Challenge – Seating

I love the sensual curves of bent-wood chairs. This old oak Windsor provides a nice study of lines — and it’s comfortable to sit in too!

~ Weekly Photo Challenge – Fun! ~

My week-long stay at Crescent Creek Cottages began with a family reunion with cousin Duncan Low, and his wonderful companion Carolyn, who joined us for one night and the next morning. It had been forty years since I last met-up with Duncan. We are the same age, and were in grade school together in Wenatchee. Our bond of fun and friendship immediately rekindled!

What could be more fun that catching fish when you are fishing?! The first morning Les, Diana and I were trolling for and catching many Kokanee (silver) trout, when Diana hauled in an eight pound Mackinaw (lake) trout — exciting to say the least!

All three mornings on lovely Odell lake, we were surrounded by old-growth evergreens, fresh cool air, Bald Eagles pip-pipping across the bay, fish jumping on the still surface and fish taking our bait. Day one; 38 Kokanee and 1 Mackinaw (4 1/2 hrs), day 2; 21 Kokanee (3 1/2 hrs), day 3; 24 Kokanee (3 1/2 hrs). It adds up to 84 fish in less than 12 hours fishing!

More fun to come in another post!

Fun!
