~ Weekly Photo Challenge – Earth ~

This photo is of a poster we purchased in 1970, from the Whole Earth Catalog. I had it mounted on hardboard and framed. It remains an awe-inspiring vision to me.

~ American Goldfinch Migration ~ Friday Fliers ~

I spent a couple days with my sister at her home in Corvallis, Oregon, to do more cleanup at Dad’s place this week. Diana is a bird lover too, and her open backyard draws in flocks of American Goldfinch as they migrate. At one point we agreed there were probably 50 in this tree!

Diana uses sunflower chips in tall cylindrical feeders. As you can see, it is a popular combination with Goldfinch!

If it’s from nature and in the air — or can get there — it’s a Friday Flyer!

~ Cee’s B&WPC – Facial Expressions + WPC – Admiration 5 ~

If you have followed my blog for a while you know that my beagle Jello, survived a serious accident last September. That she is alive and doing well today, I attribute to many people — her angels. This first shot was taken a couple weeks after the accident.

It took two surgeries to get her stitched back together, and by December we were able to resume our normal walks, something we both look forward to every day. Though this photo is out of focus, you can see her excitement, as she stretches up my legs to offer me my sock! Notice the blur of a wagging tale too!

In February she underwent another surgery to remove a metal suture from her lip. It had generated a large amount of dead tissue and infection.

This is one tenacious beagle, who has retained her sweet loving spirit through it all — another teacher.

Every day I tell her how proud of her I am!

~ Teachers – Pivotal People ~ WPC – Admiration 4 ~

On Monday I began a series highlighting teachers who have guided my life, starting with family. Tuesday I put a spotlight on Mom, featuring a photo of her in the prime of life. This morning I included a nature photo, as I am a child in nature, from a family which respects our natural world.

Now I present four men who had a profound influence on the course of my life journey. Dad encouraged me to express my creativity and use my brain. He saw the potential in me and provided support when I needed it. Vic Moore, my art teacher at Pullman High School for four years, nurtured my spirit as he taught me the basics of visual arts and the art of being.

Many years later, when I applied for a position as an educational counselor, Greg Merrill and Terry Nelson saw the light in me and hired me into a fulfilling thirty year career of high school counseling.

Bless you all!

~ One Word Photo Challenge – Bubbles ~

Now all the colors in a deluxe box of crayons — aka Color Your World is complete for this year, I am jumping into Jennifer Nicole Wells’ One Word Photo Challenge. This week the topic is bubbles.

These shots are of partly frozen water in my waterfall feature taken in December, 2013.

~ In A Vase On Monday + WPC – Admiration ~

When was the last time I had both Camelia and Rose blooming at the same time? Heavens, maybe every year, but our roses are a good three weeks early and the Camelia are hanging onto the last of their blossoms!

Mother loved flowers and the Peace Rose was her favorite. I believe my kinship with living plants — especially the flowering kind, was instilled in me through her. On May 1, I would look for anything I could find to put in a vase and give her. In Wenatchee, is was usually apple blossoms, in Pullman, Lilac.

~ Weekly Photo Challenge – Admiration ~

There are many things, qualities and people I regard with respect and approval. Today I begin a series in praise of all the teachers who have guided me through life.

It starts with family

This was the Harvey Low Clan gathering in 2006. We have all matured — changed over these subsequent ten years.  There is a lesson in every face!

Love you all.

~ Cee’s B&W Challenge – Hiding or Camouflaged ~

This week’s black and white photo challenge from Cee’s Photography is something that appears to be hiding or camflouged so that it blends into the background. Our beagle Jello is a perfect subject for this challenge because of her mottled coloring.

Do you see her in this one?

And for your final challenge —

In case you’re still looking — here she is in color!
