~ Nelly Moser ~ Color Your World – Wisteria ~

Last year I planted my second Nelly Moser Clematis, this one in the back garden. I was concerned there wouldn’t be enough sunlight, but the blossoms are opening and the vine is flourishing.

Not to be outdone, Rhododendron and Pansy show-off the lovely hue.

~ Peony, Rose and Pearls ~ In A Vase On Monday ~

Peony are beginning to blossom and roses are budding out as we approach the end of April. My Rhododendrons are in full showy bloom, as are Azaleas and Vibernum. For today’s vase however, I’ve chosen Peony, Rose and Pearls!

~ Crow Shadow ~ Weekly Photo Challenge – Abstract ~

The challenge this week is to present photographs with an abstract expressionism twist. Being a student of art, this is a fun one for me.

Thanks to Ben Huberman for making this suggestion!

~ English Wood Hyacinth ~ In A Vase On Monday ~

Several years ago, after unsuccessful attempts to add Bluebells to my gardens,  I tried out what Breck’s calls English Wood Hyacinth (Hyacinthoides hispanica) and they have spread nicely, creating a splash of lavender, pink and white in the gardens at a time when many other bulbs are either finished blooming or not quite open yet!

Ball And Chain By Big Mama Thornton

I never grow tired of seeing and hearing these two women perform the blues!

Edge of Humanity Magazine's avatarEdge of Humanity Magazine

Are you ready for some Blues?

I’m sitting on my old wood rocking chair, under an aluminum awning, on my back patio. I purchased the rocker years ago, while visiting the Great Smokey Mountains. I’m sipping on Jack Daniel’s and smoking my pipe. A very light spring rain is falling on my tropical garden. I love the look of the plants when they are wet.

The backyard speakers pump out the blues classic Ball and Chain. The song was written and performed by Big Mama Thornton. I have the song on repeat. Big Mama will melt your heart.

Enjoy!

The Complete Vanguard Recordings [3 CD]

Ball and Chain was also performed by Janis Joplin Big Brother and The Holding Company. I believe their first performance of this classic was the best…

~ A-Club Dinner – Chez Nous ~ WPC – Dinnertime ~

About four or five evenings a year, for the past twenty-seven years, a small group of friends have gathered to share a meal and discuss a book. Four couples gather at the hosts house (hosting is done in a round robin) and last night we met at my home. Hosts provide a main course and side dish, and if possible, tie their selection to the book. Other couples bring appetizers, salad or dessert, and, since we all enjoy wine, everyone adds a bottle or two to the lineup. Our book assignment this time was The Boys In The Boat, by Daniel Brown. Set in the Pacific Northwest in the early 1900s, this non-fiction story captivated all of us. In keeping with the theme, I grilled wild-caught, Columbia River King (Chinook) Salmon served with rice on the side.

Our friendship is dear, and our conversations are lively, which is why we came up with the name “A-Club”. Though we are not noteworthy wits writers or pundits, we like the comparison to the Algonquin Round Table of the early 1920’s in New York.
