~ Make it Everyday! ~ Weekly Photo Challenge ~ Today Was a Good Day ~

Here’s the kind of ‘everyday’ I prefer!

Quiet time in the morning (on the deck when the weather’s mild) with a smoothie and/or coffee, a jumble puzzle and my laptop. Then, brunch with Creighton followed by a walk with Jello. Afternoon is for projects around the house and gardens, after which a warm shower leads to a glass of wine and time writing, reading or watching the koi. Then sharing a fresh, simple dinner with Creighton, preferably on the deck with music and conversation. Then I’m ready for rest.

~ Sort of ~ Weekly Photo Challenge ~ Today Was a Good Day ~

Smoke from wildfires burning 500 miles north of my home in Vancouver, WA USA, settled into the Willamette Valley Saturday. Seeing the smokey haze from my window then breathing it when I stepped out to retrieve the morning paper, I knew it was going to be an ‘inside’ day.

With the air quality considered “very unhealthy,” I told Jello there would be no walk today. She was not pleased!

While Jello napped on the futon, I edited a short story I’ve been writing, and as the sun set our forecast called for “more of the same” 0n Sunday.

~ Eerie ~ Weekly Photo Challenge 2 ~ Creepy ~

When I stumbled upon this abandoned site in a vacant lot near a busy thoroughfare, I felt sad and disturbed. It was eerie to see where homeless people had gathered and slept, and I wondered who had been there, how long and why they left without all their gear.

Crawly ~ Weekly Photo Challenge ~ Creepy

Focusing on creepy things is not my usual mode, but I remember the shiver of uneasiness that came over me as I looked in on this tarantula at the San Diego Zoo.

~ Walk ‘n Sniff ~ Weekly Photo Challenge 3 ~ Beneath Your Feet ~

Jello likes the dogpark when there aren’t many other canines present.  Although she’s getting better at “meet and greet” she’s still anxious around bigger dogs. This morning we ambled from one shady part of the park to another, until the end.

What’s beneath my feet is hard pack dirt, mulch and weeds — what’s beneath hers is an adventure in sniffing!

Scarab ~ Monochrome Monday + WPC ~ Beneath Your Feet ~

Not sure what variety, but I’m pretty sure this beetle is of the scarab family (Scarabaeidae). It greeted me on a landing in a stairway to the condo I stayed at in Longbeach, WA.

“In ancient Egyptian religion, the sun god Ra is seen to roll across the sky each day, transforming bodies and souls. Beetles of the Scarabaeidea family (dung beetle) roll dung into a ball as food and as a brood chamber in which to lay eggs that are later transformed into larvae. For these reasons the scarab was seen as a symbol of this heavenly cycle and of the idea of rebirth or regeneration. The Egyptian god Khepri, Ra as the rising sun, was often depicted as a scarab beetle or as a scarab beetle-headed man. The ancient Egyptians believed that Khepri renewed the sun every day before rolling it above the horizon, then carried it through the other world after sunset, only to renew it, again, the next day.” wikipedia

~ Beach Walk ~ Weekly Photo Challenge ~ Beneath Your Feet ~

“The sea does not reward those who are too anxious, too greedy, or too impatient. One should lie empty, open, choiceless as a beach — waiting for a gift from the sea.”
