Trust – a sacred spirit

On the brink of
an election that will make a difference.
I do not trust:
a congregation of alligators
a company of badgers
a skulk of fox
a shiver of sharks
a wake of buzzards

a bloat of fat men
a shrewdness of apes
a cackle of hyenas
a bellowing of bullfinch
a passel of pigs
a pack of weasels

a generation of vipers
a plague of rats
a battery of barracudas
a murder of crows
a nest of scorpions.

Let us not be swayed by
a surfeit of skunks
and become
a muddle of guinea pigs
a clat of worms.

Feather finished

I love before and after photos of projects like remodeling a bathroom, or bringing a shed or garage back into service.   This is the first time I have taken pics of a drawing while in process, and it really helped cheer me on.  Half way through. I wondered why I had given myself such a difficult subject.  Yes, I like a challenge, but…whew!  Then, I’d look back on the before photos, and see the progress I had made since starting, and I was encouraged to keep at it.

As with all art, it is important to know when the piece is done; not perfect, but done.  This feather is as finished as it is going to be.  Hope you enjoy it!

Feather

With a storm brewing and my blog established, I started to draw yesterday, and continued today.  This is my ‘fledgling’ drawing this year.  Hard to believe, yet these are intricate, detailed renderings I make, and it takes a lot of time.  Though the journey to completion is demanding, it is equally revealing, and the finished work is always (well usually!) an exciting reward.

This is my first attempt to draw a feather, just one feather, not the whole bird.
