~ In A Vase On Monday ~ Island Berries ~

Today’s vase is an ordinary wine glass — the fanciest piece of glassware in cabin #1 at Beach Haven, Orcas Island!

On my walk this morning I picked some berry branches for my posy and feature it on the picnic table with “Presidents Channel” in the background.img_6776

~ Weekly Photo Challenge – Nostalgia + Skywatch Friday ~

After my father passed in June, my husband and I took a Road Trip Odyssey to favorite places my family had enjoyed in my adolescence, and to visit the cemetery in Wenatchee, Washington, where my maternal grandparents are buried. As we passed this sign, I knew we were almost there.

After visiting the cemetery we went to the house my parents had built and where my family lived from 1956-1961. It looks as lovely as I remember it.

The rest of this summer and into autumn I have been writing about this experience – revisiting places from my childhood and spreading ashes in sacred places. The project has taken much of my time and energy – hence not so many posts here (or responses to your posts). Here are links to some I offered real time when I was at these places – all of which have deep nostalgic value to me.

~ In A Vase On Monday – ‘Tis Autumn ~

Not a lot blooming these days in my gardens; a few determined roses, and stalwart hydrangeas continuing their chameleon transition. Today I feature the last of the Rudbeckia with a few stems of sage and oregano in a handmade ceramic vase dating back to the 1960’s.

To my friends and followers on WordPress, please accept my apology for not responding to your posts. I will be back in the swing soon, and look forward to seeing what you’ve been up to!

Thanks to Cathy at Rambling in the Garden  for providing the inspiration to brave the rain and find some lingering light and beauty in my garden.

~Skywatch Friday + WPC Quest 2 ~

When I walk beside the Pacific Ocean on a gentle-breeze day like this, I sense all the blessings of life; warm sun above me, sandy shore beneath, the heady scent of salty flotsam in the air and the ever-present roll of tides pushing and pulling.

Earlier I posted a Quest photo of Jello walking back from this beach toward the place where we stay when we visit Longbeach.

Currently, my quest is to own a condo at The Breakers in one of the buildings in the background. I’ve been working diligently to swing a deal, and it looks very promising.

~ In A Vase On Monday – Early Autumn ~

Coneflowers are fading fast, while Hydrangea blossoms continue their chameleon shading from grey-green to mauve. This week’s vase is a ceramic pot made by a friend. On such a warm summer-like day it seemed fitting to set it on a table by a bench near the pond.

This is the last Magnus with intact petals. Older seed-heads in the gardens show signs of being feasted upon by American Goldfinch, which are migrating through regularly now.

~ Skywatch Friday ~

Our short trip to the beach started on a clear, warm last-day of summer,

followed by a mixture of clouds and sun-breaks on the Autumnal Equinox,

and ends today with heavy rain and wind too strong for a walk through the dunes.img_6593

~ Mr. Lincoln – In A Vase On Monday ~

A few years ago, my Mr. Lincoln rose was almost dead — only one stalk was healthy enough to save. Now it is thriving and has provided blossoms all summer long.

Rosa ‘Mr. Lincoln, Dianthus barbatus, Hydrangea macrophylla

On this last Monday of summer, I feature these deeply colored and fragrant roses with bright Sweet William and fading-to-fall Hydrangea.

Thanks to Cathy at Rambling in the Garden  for providing the inspiration to find what’s blooming in my gardens every Monday. Soon, the only blossoms will be toadstools!
